"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here.

Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."  -Teddy Roosevelt

Do you know how many immigrants come to America illegally (it seems they only know of one state and that is LA.) and within three to four months they either get into a rear end collision or get hurt at work??

I can tell you that it is a lot. They are doing these things and then suing OUR insurance companies and walking away with a purse full of green.
They don't have a LA license, they have a " International License" that they do not get from the DMV, but from a ID place that deals with immigrants only.  They have no social security card, only a state ID (which anyone can get) but yet can turn around and sue us for our hard earned money.

How ?  I thought to be able to sue in the US, you had to have a Social Security card and be legal.  I know of a Spanish lady who runs a construction company, and who's brothers and other relatives own " construction companies", they are requesting permits to bring over 105 Mexicans each under the guise of day laborers. That's five " companies " seeking the workers. That's 525 illegal workers who DO NOT go back once the "jobs" are through. 525 illegal immigrants here.

They can't speak English and most will tell you that they never plan on learning English .  They are taking jobs and money away from Americans who want to work and are struggling to feed their families because it's cheaper to hire a immigrant.

The other day I was in Baton Rouge and I had to stop and blink because I thought somehow I had been transported to Mexico. I'm all for them coming here and wanting to be an American Citizen and better their lives but for petes sake, speak the language and do it legally.  >:(

We are told the solution to this is "hard" and that amnesty is the only answer.

Actually, the answer is simple: secure guest worker cards. Good for 3-6 months. Keep track of where they are and make the employer financially responsible.

Huge fines for employing illegals without guest worker cards.

Does it get much simpler? So, if this is not being done does that mean there are political reasons for the current mess?   ::)

some parts of the country literally run on illegal workers. they will not 'get with the program' unless forced, maybe at martial law point.

Amnesty means 12million or more democrat votes. Automatic votes. Forever votes.

That would spell the beginning of the end for any real republic here.

You R not getting rid of me that easy Lex.

I haz an ANCHOR BABY.

Which is a goot thing, because it is a very long swim back to England.   ;D

Part of the solution would be to allow more legal immigrants per year.  They have the legal immigration lines so tied down...

Immigration used to have a utility component. "OK Mr. Wannabee immigrant. What are you bringing to the table? What contribution can you make? Are you a doctor, engineer, carpenter, something positive?"

Now, with the political correctness BS, it is "What race are you since our quota is xxx? Did your mother sneak across the border in her ninth month of pregnancy and drop you like a load of potatoes so that you are a citizen and can now invite not only mom, but aunts and uncles to come be citizens? Will you promise to not bother learning English since that would be culturally insensitive?" Etc. etc. etc.

So far as can be seen, the illegals have a louder voice than the legal immigrants and the American people. Is this a result of politics? I thought the people on the Hill were elected to act in our best interests?

Hold the employers responsible via heavy fines.

After Hurricane Gustav, I had "Little Mexico" on top of 4 of my roofs at the same time. Not ONE could speak english... but they certainly know how to make gestures in regards to the most universally understood language.  :o

When I contacted the company, they openly stated that not ALL of the workers may be legal, but they are cheap labor and want to work, unlike so many Americans.

So... how come I didn't see the cheap labor passed on to me???

FINE the companies who hire the illegals in name of greed.

The illegal immigration issue is much, much more sinister than would appear on the surface.

These are 12 million or more Democrat voters just waiting to come on board. They will vote Democrat and we all know that. Obama and his cronies in Congress cannot wait to tip the scales by 12 million. That will spell the end for any two party system in this country.

Obama said that the new health care proposals will not cover "illegal" immigrants. Then in the next breath he talked about how the immigration crisis was next on his agenda.

This is so transparent. He plans to convert the illegals to legals overnight, put them on welfare and public health coverage, and then sit back and let Acorn make sure they all register. Whatever wealth you have or thought you had will be redistributed to anybody with their hand out who will vote the right way.

Do they only get to vote once?  Without voter ID and good controls, they can bus folks around to skew any election.

Any close election where Acorn had influence is suspect right off the bat.

Micky Mouse registered and voted many times in many states, I am sure. Again, it is all about money. The more who register, the more politicians (and duped private foundations) funnel money in. The more money, the more there is pressure to kick the numbers up and register more people. Gee, why is this sounding like the climate change debacle?

The idea of making registrations easier in the name of equality is a dangerous concept. If a population loses trust in the integrity of the basic democratic process, then it is over.
