Apparently to get the Peace Prize these days all you need to do is make a pretty speech off a teleprompter without ever having accomplished a thing in your life.

The Committee is betting on the come here by stating that the prize is based on what was promised and what they hope is actually delivered.

What a world.

He was nominated 11 days after taking office. He hadn't had time to do anything even if he were capable....and as far as I know he still hasn't done anything to further world peace except kowtow to the Russians and the Iranians. :(

So Obama was "nominated" soon after he was elected.  So what?   The award wasn't granted until nearly ten months later, after he began to repair the damage to the reputation of the USA as done by Obama's bush-league predecessor.
But I understand the angst of the common right-angled wingnut. Ain't it a shame that the Nobel committee didn't consult a bunch of petulant whiners who can't form a thought until it has been vetted by the Great Limbaugh Wind Machine.
Grow up.  Your Boy George W. didn't get the award.  Live with it.

The Peace Prize, as far as U.S. presidents and presidential candidates go, is aimed more at the blow-hard left. Jimmy Carter for his brokering of the Palestinian situation? Yeah, and how is that working out? Gore for global warming? Yeah, that was really relevant to world peace -and based on very flawed science at that.

Wow, Mica. People have been commenting on how Obama has done nothing to earn this "prize" without making ugly personal attacks on him. Your defense is to call names? How very liberal of you.
Attack Bush all you want, hate Rush for all I care- big deal. You need to wipe the foam off your mouth and come up with a better defense of your dear leader.

ihatenapolean sez:  "Wow, Mica.  People have been commenting on how Obama has done nothing to earn this "prize" without making ugly personal attacks on him..."

So what?  Make as many "ugly personal attacks" as you want on any president you choose.  That's a fate that awaits all politicians.  (It should apply more clearly to politicians who favor mistresses and hookers while spouting "god and family values", but that would be inconvenient.)

As for defending my "dear leader" -- no need.  He can take care of himself.  In fact, looks like he got himself elected President entirely without your help or mine.  How rude!

But for your convenience, I'll offer this:  the name of the award is the Nobel Peace Prize.  Does the middle word give you a clue?  Let me help.  Out of the previous five presidents, which of them won the Nobel Peace Prize?  Let's review.

George W. - Started a war in Iraq, apparently emboldened by mysterious documents from Niger that only told the Great Misunderestimater" what he wanted to hear, not what he needed to know.
Clinton - Sudan (not really a war, but close enough)
George H. W. - Iraq 1
Reagan - Grenada (see "Clinton" above)
Carter - started no wars

Now pay attention.  Given the name of the prize -- remember, it's the Nobel PEACE Prize -- who is more likely to qualify for such an award, someone who starts wars or someone who hasn't?  Take all the time you need.

Thanks for the  "What I need to ...' suggestion, but you're a bit late.  I got that one down already.  What I need to do is state my own opinions, whether or not they agree with yours.   And so I shall.

The title of this form is "Political Rants".  This suggests (to me, anyway) that differing opinions are discussed.  Instead, what I find here is goodoleboys back-slapping each other.  So, I decided to see what would happen if I fell out of lock-step with the herd.  Predictably, I'm confronted with the convenient-but-meaningless epithet "liberal", the right-angled wingnut version of a teenage girl's "whateverrrrrrr", all while being admonished for "name calling".  The irony is amusing.

Anyway, you're only about half correct about the name calling.  "common right-angled wingnut" is undeniably an epithet, but it's cute, isn't it?  "Petulant whiners" is merely an unfortunate state of mind, but my usage of the phrase in this context is correct.  For your further convenience I'll use capitals and transform it into a proper noun the next time around.
