Here are a few rules and tips to help you get the information you want:

1. Don't email legal questions to us. If you have a question, post it in the forums. This is the only way that all our readers can benefit from the question and the answers. The same goes for personal messages to the lawyers here. We will not respond to legal questions send via email or personal message.

2. Make sure you are in the right Forum before you post. If your question is about a criminal matter, for example,  then go to the Criminal Law Forum and click on the "New Topic" button from there.

3. Please use the "Search" button before you post a question. The odds are good that whatever you want to ask has already been asked and answered.

4. Please don't type in all caps. IT'S CONSIDERED RUDE --LIKE YELLING, AND IT MAKES YOUR POST HARD TO READ. DON'T YOU AGREE?  :D

5. Please try to make the title to your post descriptive. A title like "I need advice" will not get as much attention as a title that describes your problem.

6. Don't use what you read here as a substitute for legal advice from your own lawyer. Everyone tries to be helpful here to the extent they can. You can't possibly present all the details of a legal problem in a forum like this the same way you can present facts and details when you sit down with a lawyer. The lawyers here will have "lawyer" under their name. Others who are non-lawyers will base advice on their own real-life experience. In either case, you should not rely solely on the information available in these forums.

7. Please don't use specific names in your posts. For example, don't say "My lawyer John Doe did a good job for me (or bad job for me)." Because of the nature of Internet forums, any comments about specific people leaves open the way for abuse and no way for the person to respond.

8. Please ask only one question in a post whenever possible. Multiple questions in a single post leads to confusion, partial answers, and other problems.

9. Take a look at the rest of the La-Legal site for information before you post. Remember, this site deals with Louisiana law. Please don't ask questions about legal issues involving other states. There is a wealth of information on nearly every legal subject and the answer you're looking for might already be "under your nose."
