My father-in-law adopted his grandchildren when their parents were unfit. Now they are adults and he doesn’t wish to will any of his estate to them for various (his own) personal reasons. We have long heard that you cannot disown an adopted child but cannot find any actual law supporting this, as they are over 24 years old and not incapacitated. Can he legally disinherit them or is it in fact a law that they are forced heirs?

Legally adopted children and naturally born children are treated exactly the same under the law.

So, if a naturally born child is no longer a forced heir upon reaching age 24, it is the same for adopted children.

Absent permanent disability, a child over the age of 23 can be left out in a will.
